Access Statement for St Andrews Lodge

Introduction

We are a 10 bedroom bed and breakfast establishment. We have 5 bedrooms on the first floor and 5 bedrooms on the ground floor one of which is wheelchair accessible. We also have a guest lounge, bar and breakfast room. Guests can also bring there pets to stay in the ground floor rooms which overlook the garden.

We are on the number 51 Bus Route from Chichester. There are 2 Bus Stops approx 100yds from St Andrews Lodge. Both are a level walk. The nearest Train Station is in Chichester which is Approx 8 miles. The number 51 bus goes into the bus station which is behind the train station.

There are wheelchair accessible toilets in Selsey and can be found in Budgens Car Park, East Street, Hillfield Road and near the Lifeboat Station. These toilets do not need a Radar key.

There are no wheelchair accessible taxis. The only alternative is to fold the wheelchair and put it in the boot.

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities

We have parking for approx 14 cars at the front of the property. There is no designated parking space but we can reserve the space if required.

We are happy to assist guests with any luggage they may have.

The car park is accessible over a dropped kerb to the front of the property. The car park is laid to tarmac. There is rear access to the vehicle when it is parked. We have large signs at the entrance to the Car Park with all our contact details which is very clear. There is a bell in the porch.

The car park is outside the front of the house and is well lit at night. All the car park is level. There is a slight slope from the road over the dropped kerb into the car park.

Main Entrance, Reception & Ticketing Area

The main entrance is at the front of the house. There is a step 9 inches high into the porch through a side hung door which is 31 inches wide and then another small step which is 4 inches into the house. The inner door is also 31 inches. The bell is in the porch. We do have an alternative entrance which is to the side of the house and round to the rear. This is a level walk on concrete slabs. The access is into the bar via a ramp which has a width of 47 inches. The door is a double door and is 43 inches wide. There is a pen available to sign in. The entrance hall is well lit and seating is available. After signing in we show the guests all the public areas and escort them to their room. Reception is manned all day from breakfast until approx 10.30pm. The floor is level in the reception area. There is a door to the guest lounge in the reception which is has an opening of 35 inches. There is also a door to the bar which is 27 inches wide.

Public Areas - Hall, Stairs, Landing, Corridors etc

The property is over 2 floors. Ground floor and 1st floor. Five of the bedrooms are on the first floor up a flight of 8 steps to a small landing and then another 7 steps. There is a handrail and the stairs are carpeted. There is a level corridor to the rooms.

The ground floor rooms are off the garden. There is a level walk on concrete to access the rooms. Rooms 6, 8 and 9 have a small step to access the rooms. Room 7 is a step over the door frame. Room 10 is wheelchair accessible and has level access. There is a ramp with a handrail to access Room 10.

There is a restriction on access from the bar to the reception. Motorised wheelchairs might find it difficult to move around a 90 degree corner.

We have 2 toilets in reception which have level access but are not wheelchair accessible.

Public Areas - Sitting room, lounges, lobbies etc

The bar is accessible from the garden up a ramp. The breakfast room is off the bar and has a small step of 2 inches. We have a ramp here for wheelchair access. The floor in the breakfast room is wood and we have carpet laid in the bar and guest lounge. The guest lounge is off the reception area and is level access.

Bedrooms & Sleeping Areas

We have 5 ground floor rooms. Room 10 is a wheelchair accessible room. The room has a double and a single bed and highbacked seating. The room also has a fridge and a flat screed television with freeview. The floor is carpeted.

The bathroom is a wet room and has space for the wheelchair. There are two grab rails in the shower area and a grab rail next to the sink. There are also two rails either side of the toilet which is slightly raised for easier access. We have a plastic chair for the shower with a back. The room opens on to the garden and dogs are allowed in this room.

Grounds and Gardens

We have a large garden to the rear of the property which is laid to lawn and borders. The garden is flat and can be seen from all but two of our rooms. The five ground floor rooms open directly on to the garden and are ideal for bringing your dog.

Additional Information

Fire instructions are on the back of all the guest rooms doors. A fire alarm will sound and we also have emergency lighting. Service dogs are welcome and can accompany guests into the dining room. The garden rooms have fridges if any medication needs to be stored. We are always available to help if you need anything.
